Mick Hayes
The Mick Hayes Band is an exciting new approach at the blues scene right here in Buffalo. Rich with youthful talent, this band has earned respect from and even jammed with Magic Red and the Voodoo tribe, Smokin' Joe Kubek, Michael Burkes, War, Nigel Mack, and Mark Stutso from Jimmy Thackery and the Drivers. The trio has burned up stages all over town with their full- throttle attitude for modernizing the traditional blues sound. One year after forming the MHB won the Western New York Blues Society’s Memphis bound competition and played on historical Beale Street. The band was mentioned in the King Biscuit Times in the January 2004 issue for their efforts in the International Blues Challenge. Playing a wide variety, the MHB has been known to cover the hardest of all Jimi Hendrix songs and then in the next breath play a Texas Shuffle that impressed even the blues purists. Six months after the MHB had formed, Mick started introducing his original efforts Such as “Witchdoctor” and “I can't handle Mondays” only to see that these originals have the moxie to make it on the dance floors of Buffalo and proved the same in historical Memphis. Mick won Blues Guitarist of the Year in 2003 by the Peoples Choice Awards, which was a victory after four years of numerous nominations. Now 25 years old the guitarist, singer, and song writer has a tremendous following and has “shaked” up the blues and inspired the young people of WNY to listen to music they never would have until witnessing this performance machine!
